Hotel weddings will go ahead say bosses Last week, administrators were called in to review the financial position of the Folio Hotels Group, which owns the Maids Head Hotel in Tombland, Norwich. But today, officials assured customers they have nothing to worry about. A spokesman for administrators MCR, on behalf of the hotel group, said: “It is absolutely clear that all 36 folio hotels are open for business and they are continuing to take bookings. “All bookings and events that have been arranged will be honoured.” Folio, which is one of the largest independent owners of three and four-star hotels in the country, has blamed a downturn in business, an extensive refurbishment project and high rentals for its cash flow problems. Earlier this year, the Maids Head Hotel, which was bought by Folio in 2006, won back its four-star status after a £2.4m revamp. Mike McGregor, managing director of a recruitment firm in Norwich, said it was “sad news” about the hotel group’s financial troubles as his daughter plans to get married at the Maids Head Hotel next year. He said: “I hope they find a buyer as we had only just paid a deposit for my daughter’s wedding scheduled for June next year.” The hotel, which dates back to the 13th century, is thought to be the oldest in England and is often regarded as a jewel in Norwich’s crown. It is Folio’s only hotel in East Anglia and one of 36 hotels leased by the group throughout the UK. Others include The Harte and Garter Hotel and Spa in Windsor, and The Yorkshire Hotel in Harrogate. . |
